We would like to welcome David Blackmore to the One Metre Barra Club with this classy silver 104cm Roper River Barramundi. David tells us he caught this one early in the morning and the rest of the day was slim pickings with only three fish to hand. He added ” When our first fish was 104cm we did not mind that much”. David caught this fish trolling a lure on a Xtreme XT Rod with a Daiwa Zillion 7.3 reel spooled with 30lb braid. Great first fish of the day David and even better as your entry into the One Metre Barra Club.

Johnno Marven, 118cm, May River, Derby, WA, 20/10/12
We would like to welcome John “Johnno” Marven to One Metre Barra Club with this nice 118cm fish from the May river in Derby, Western Australia. Johnno tells us that he caught this one amongst a bunch of others at this location. The top numbers 118, 102, 97, 95 all coming off one snag. He is not letting on of the location of the actual snag but he as been catching them on bait in the dirty water. Some great camera work caught these shots of him letting it go to fight another day! Thanks Johnno and again welcome to OMBC
Shayne Atkins 103cm, Fitzroy River, Western Australia 9/02/2013
We would like to welcome Shayne Atkins to the One Metre Barra Club with this fish of 103cm caught in the Fitzroy River Western Australia. Shayne caught this while trolling a lure from his Sambo Corstic Rod teamed with Kimberley Penn reel. He used a 60 pound bite leader and 30lb braid line. What a nice clean fish and it was kicking a bit. we know because there was a nice splash on the camera lens in the full sized picture! Welcome to OMBC Shayne.
Jenny Petursson 103 cm, East Kimberly, Western Australia 21/10/2012
We would like to welcome and wish Jenny Petursson a very Happy Birthday with her entry to the One Metre Barra Club!. Jenny caught this fish while on a trip that we believe was an early birthday celebration for her. Ian Hunt who entered Jenny into the club tells us we might get some more details from her once she receives her pin and certificate on her birthday this December 15th. This is the first entry for a Western Australian Barramundi and a nice one to start! Update Below

Jenny sent us this update. “I’d been pretty keen to check out this corner of the Kimberley for a while, and when Ian asked what I wanted to do for my 30th birthday I said I’d like to spend a few days checking it out. We decided to go early before the rains came, so took a couple of days off work and after a brief stop in town to pick up the cheapest combo I could get (my favourite rod had a run in with a tree the day before we left!) I ended up with a $150 Rovex /Crystal baitcaster combo which I loaded up with 60 pound braid & 80 lb trace and tied on a Reidys Taipan lure.
We were flicking off the rocks in a stunning gorge on the last day of our stay when suddenly I got a massive hit. Unlike all the smaller barra I’ve caught, this big girl did not jump, spin or do backflips, she just put her head down and dived deep. Over the next 15 minutes, every time I got her in sight she was off again! Eventually I could feel her begin to tire, and as I brought her in realised this really was the fish of a lifetime!
It was only after I’d released her that we realised the trace clip had come undone and was almost perfectly straight! With no net or lip grippers it really was pure luck that got this fish in!I’m stoked to have the 1st WA fish on your site, thanks for having me!” You are welcome Jenny, what a catch!
Rodney “Chopper” Howe 106 cm , Roper River, NT 28/07/12
Rodney Howe (aka Chopper) landed his “fish of a lifetime” while fishing with his mates ‘The Roper Barstuds’ on the Roper River on Saturday 28th July 2012. He was using a G Loomis Force Lite teamed with a Shimano Corsair loaded with 30lb braid and 60lb leader tied to Barra Classic F18 lure. Now I do not have a lot of background on this capture as it is a gift from Kim and Paul Blanch to “Chopper” for his upcoming birthday but I do know he is very happy with his catch just from the picture! Welcome to OMBC Rodney and if you have anything further to add please send me details and we will fix it up.
Congrats on a good solid entry to One Metre Barra Club. Your pin and a free lure are on the way!
Scott Waine,110cm,Roper River, NT. 29/7/2012
We would like to welcome another new member to One Metre Barra Club. Scott Waine just reported this 110cm Barramundi from the Roper River in the Northern Territory. Scott was trolling a Warlock 2.5 lure on a Daiwa Zillion and G Lommis outfit when this fish latched on.
This was Scotts first trip in his new boat and although he has lived in the territory a couple of times it has taken a couple of years to crack the metre mark. He is crediting the luck to his new ride and the gold Warlock lure which has been his go to weapon for Barra and Saratoga. The fish was caught in 22 degree water on a crisp day for the NT. He was trolling the banks in full sun expecting the fish to be looking for extra warmth. Scott tells us that although it was cold the fish was hot and showed no signs of being a lazy slob. The fish took off he said and launched fully out of the water. When his mate Max netted it went berserk and destroyed the net.
Well Scott hot luck in a cold patch! Welcome to OMBC mate.
Bruce Cohen, 101cm Daly River, NT. 10/05/2012
We would like to welcome another member to the One Metre Barra Club. Bruce Cohen has been a keen fisherman since his father taught him as a youngster. Since those days he fished many locations around the world catching anything from trout to marlin but he really got the Barramundi bug on his first trip to Bamaga in Far North Queensland.
For Bruce’s entry in to OMBC he gives us this 101 cm fish from the Daly River, NT. This was his second trip with Carl of www.darwinbarraandcrab.com after having had an awesome time in 2011. Actually Bruce was fishing with his two friends Les and David whom all caught metre plus fish. Les Brem of course was our previous entry and all members of this team are already looking forward to the 2013 run off.
Congrats Bruce and welcome to OMBC.
Les Brem, 104cm Daly River, NT. 06/05/2012
We would like to welcome Les Brem to the One Metre Barra Club. Les was fishing with Darwin Barra And Crab Fishing Tours when this fish jumped on his lure. His mates were all very happy for him when it went 104cm and to say Les was stoked would be an understatement. The story does not end there because when Les got home and told his daughter Jodi about his catch she was delighted to see her father made so happy by a great trip and his metre Barra! Anyway Jodi decided she would surprise Les and sign him up for membership to OMBC. She did a good job keeping it a secret for a while but she was just so bursting at the seams to tell him, well she spilled the beans. Jodi emailed me that Les really liked the idea and that he looked forward to getting his pin. Well it arrived today and now we want to add Les and his 104cm Barramundi to our wall. Congrats Les not only for the fish and your entry to the club but for having such a wonderful loving and caring daughter. You are a lucky man and we welcome you to OMBC.
Perry Proeger, 122cm South Alligator River, NT. 05/03/2012
We would like to welcome Perry Proeger of Caloundra to the One Metre Barra Club today. Perry was fishing with Chris Jones www.riverandreef.com.au in the South Alligator River , NT. They were trolling lures when this big girl grabbed the 21 cm Gold Bomber. Perry tells us “this fish did a dance or two with the last aerial propelling her fully airborne”. (You can see by the picture the amount of water she moved in her display not to mention that big piece of gold in her mouth.) Perry added “I still can’t believe I got her in the boat”. We here at OMBC are happy you did and love the action shot mate! Pictures like that speak a thousand words so as always here are the details on the tackle used.
Rod: Team Daiwa Tierra 12-15lb 6′.6″
Reel: Team Daiwa Luna
Lure: 21cm Gold Bomber
Line: 20lb Fire Line Braid
The fish was caught on the change of the tide and went 122cm for 22 kgs. That is another impressive fish for a new member and for the over 120 cm captures here at OMBC. Again welcome Perry to OMBC with this nice fish.
Stephen Watson, 106 cm Daly River , NT. 31/07/11
Stephen Watson is the newest member of the One Metre Barra club with and impressive Daly River fish of 106 cm. Stephen was fishing with his friends Craig and Katrina when he caught this fish on 31/07/11. He was trolling a Reidy’s Big Ass B52 lure on his outfit (Shimano Curado 201E7 spooled with Cabella Ripcord SI+ 50 line and a Live Fibre Territory Barra 8kg rod). Stephen backed up his fish with another of 94cm 10 minutes later. Catching this Metrey consumed three months of Stephen’s weekends and spare time but he caught plenty of 80 and 90′s as a consequence and that is not a bad problem to have. Needless to say looking at the photo he is one happy chappy! Stephen says the Daly has continued to fire after the run off and the fishing is still on! Congratulations Stephen and welcome to the One Metre Barra Club. One of our newly designed “Member Boxes” and Barramundi Pins is on the way to Darwin now.
