We would like to welcome Leonard Eichmann to One Metre Barra Club with this 115cm Barramundi from the Calliope River in Gladstone. Leonard caught this fish while he was in Gladstone for a week of work. Leonard told us he used a live mullet for bait and when she hooked up fought hard with plenty of tail walking whilst running him up and down the river. It took about ten or so minutes before she gave up and was landed. For the gear junkies he was using Shimano Mexican Fire Rod 5-10kg, Shimano Elf 5000 reel loaded with 22 pound braid and a 40lb fluro leader at the business end. Leonard proudly reports that this beautiful girl was released after the pictures were taken. Let me quote Leonard here “It was the best week away working I have ever had”. I think that speaks volumes. Congratulations mate and again welcome to OMBC.
We would like to welcome Thadathil Joseph to One Metre Barra Club with this 110cm Barramundi from the Calliope River. This is his first metre plus Barramundi and he caught it on a Squidgie soft plastic with a Sahara 6-8 kg rod/Stradic 4000 reel outfit. A beautiful fish mate and a classic way to enter OMBC. Again congratulations and welcome!
We would like to welcome Nathan Richards to One Metre Barra Club with this solid 113cm Barramundi from Kinchant Dam. Nathan or “Affie” as he is called had been chasing fresh water barra for at least 18 months with not much luck. But when he did finally connect to his first ever fresh water barra it was one that topped the magic metre mark. Nathan said “I nearly lost this fish four times as it weeded me but when landed it was one of my happiest fishing days ever!” Congrats to you Affie and again welcome to OMBC. Just as a side note Nathan and his fishing mate Dylan “Matty” Matthews have a website www.cqfishingadventures.com where they journal their fishing exploits. These two ex South Africans who now call Mackay home like to fish hard and enjoy life. So drop on by and take a look.

We would like to welcome Wayne Keevers to OMBC with a nice silver fish of 104cm. Now you might see that we have a couple of Keevers here at OMBC and yes Wayne and Russell are brothers who with our new members Greg and Kevin all like to wet a line and catch Barramundi. Wayne had to say about this entry capture “After a tough few days of fishing and lots of casting this fish came from the smallest twig in the creek. She put on a show for myself and newbie barra angler Michael whom was fishing with me. This girl finally came into the boat for quick photo and pencil mark up for checking the actual measurement later.” Wayne went on to say “It is always nice to see these fish swim away in good health.” We totally agree at OMBC and thank Wayne for entering not only his own fish but Greg Albert and Kevin Veness into the One Metre Barra Club. All the best to all when you get together and may the Barra always boof your lures.
25lb braid, Abu 5600 reel, Fire Wolf rod and a RMG lure
We would like to welcome Greg Albert to One Metre Barra Club with this impressive 115cm fish. This is Greg’s first 1 metre + barra after coming close a few times. He was very happy with this one to open his account and enter OMBC. As you can see Greg is sitting on 1 metre measure that isn’t long enough measure a bigger fish. No problem, this group of anglers all fish catch & release and they have come up with a quick accurate way to keep record. The fish is photographed, laid across the seat and marked out with a pencil so it can be released asap! The actual measurement is confirmed back at camp that night with some refreshments and stories of how, when and where. Once again welcome Greg to OMBC and we wish you more fish that require bringing out the pencil.
25lb braid, Shimano Calcutta, Firewolf , Barra classic lure
We would like to welcome Kevin Veness to One Metre Barra Club with this fine entry. Kevin fishes with a group of mates and has caught & released plenty like this one, so it was about time he was entered in the OMBC offically. This is one of about four metre plus fish Kev caught on this trip. As you can see Kevin is always happy to catch one and let it go for another day. As with all of the fellas in this group we welcome you to OMBC and look forward to seeing more of the quality fish from your trips!
